Well, according to the U.S. Census Bureau, it is official. I am now a minority in Texas. In the second week of August, it was reported that Texas has become the fourth state to have a non-white majority population. This demographic change has been primarily driven by the huge influx of Hispanics, and I'm sure lots of that is illegal immigrants.
Of course the PC media is calling Texas a "majority-minority" state. That is stupid word-smithing to avoid calling whites in Texas what they are: the minority. Yeah, I'm a minority in Texas, but not an officially recognized minority. Now before folks go crazy talking about the "browning" of Texas (more word-smithing I can't stand), non-whites make up a slim majority in Texas, just 50.2% of the population. However, all indications are that this shift in the racial configuration of Texans is a trend that will continue for some time, until whites are more clearly a true minority in Texas. I think this demographic shift should bring about some interesting changes.
Obviously the political elites, and other assorted activist morons, are looking at how to take advantage of this shift in population. Rather than addressing the fact that this is clear evidence of our uncontrolled immigration problems, and all the associated health and economic problems, public policy analysts are declaring we need to "bring minority education and professional achievement up to the levels of whites."
First off they ignore the real problem of out of control illegal immigration, and turn to "education" as they once more look at draining hard working citizen's pockets for more boondoggles into the failed public education system. Second, they act as if our society has to be rigged to bring about equivalent outcomes for Hispanics compared to whites. Personally, I think that is a blatantly racist attitude. These people are acting as if Hispanics can't cut it in America and have to be treated differently.
I believe in individual merit, and I think Hispanics can make it in our society just as well as anyone else if they choose to without the government rigging the system for them (I point to my former next door neighbor; a Mexican national who came to America legally, started his own business and has become rather wealthy. In fact he's my former neighbor because he wanted his kids to go to a specific, widely preferred public school and moved to make sure he'd stay in the district for that school. How does this prove his success? He had paid off the house he lived in next to me (probably worth around $200,000-plus) and went and bought a $400,000 home in a nicer neighborhood. He still hasn't sold the first house (and doesn't seem in a hurry to do so), I know the country club he belongs to (too rich for my blood), and I've seen the SUVs and sports cars he and his wife drive. I could go on about all the trips their family takes, and other things, but you get the point.)
So, as the idiots in charge of our country continue down a path that will radically altar America, without our consent and most likely to the detriment of American citizens, I have to look for some kind of bright spot in all this, and I think I've found it. My wife and I have been thinking about how we will pay for college for our two kids, and if the high cost is worth it for what passes for a university education today. Traditionally, being white we couldn't qualify for a lot of the grants and scholarships out there. There's $3 billion worth of scholarships in Texas alone that go unclaimed every year. But typically white people are told they don't qualify for this money. Things are about to change.
Yes, I are a minority in Texas now, and that means in a few years when my kids get ready to go to college I'll be looking to rack up all those special minority set asides and special grants and scholarships for minorities.
In the next five to seven years, when my kids are in college, the minority status of whites in Texas should be thoroughly established. That means that I'll be using the 1964 Civil Rights Act, every anti-discrimination law I can dig up, and every judicial precedent established concerning minority quotas and set-asides to make sure we get our piece of the minority quota pie that ensures minorities their "fair share" of money and opportunity.
I've spent my whole life on the "majority" side of this equation, hitting that government brick wall that provided a "cut in line" in front of me for minorities. Mostly I've ignored it and moved on, but as the table turns, my kids should be able to take advantage of these long established privileges for minorities, which they now are according to the federal government.
Okay, so the truth is I'm just trying to make a point here. I don't truly expect to be allowed to take advantage of those minority-biased rules that swamp our society. I believe that one of two things will happen. Either the minority-biased laws will become a huge embarrassment in states where whites aren't the majority any more and will be done away with (my personal preference), or we will continue with the status quo, and the term "minority" will really mean "non-white," and even if whites were to make up only 10% of the population, we'd still not qualify for "special consideration" as "minorities."
Yes, the future holds some interesting changes, and since the hypocrisy of the government and liberals alike knows no bounds, I see problems ahead without the aid of official minority status for the "new white minority" in Texas. Next stop in Texas: Spanish to be declared the official language of Texas. Adios, Gringos.
